When I was a kid, my dad once said to me that the secret to riches is to become organized. In particular about money, it is about administering your finances by becoming organized with where and how you spend your money. This is true and it is that simple. Not only for money, but everything else we want to do in life.
As a kid, I did not know exactly what he meant by that. I remember vividly I wanted to start my own business when I was around 12 or 13 years old. I do not quite remember the exact age anymore. It is at that point that my dad would encourage me to focus on my studies rather than starting a business or making money. He had his reasons for telling me to focus on that. I guess he thought I was not ready for managing money. In other words, he might have thought I was not organized enough with my life in order for me to understand the true meaning of administering my finances. At any rate, I was dissapointed and did not bring that topic back with my father.
Fast forward 30 years later, I now clearly understand the meaning of my dad’s words and what he truly meant to say. There is no secret to becoming successful in life or to becoming wealthy or rich. The important aspect to achieve any goal in life is to master organization. If all of us at any point in time want to achieve anything in life, we must be organized in our pursue of the goal. To put it in simple terms, we must be able to master the skill of organization to manage our assets and resources in a way that helps us to achieve our goals steady and patiently. Bringing this back to money, if we truly want to become rich, we must learn the skill of knowing and controling where every single cent and every single dollar we spend is going to. If we have no idea where our money is going to, then it is impossible to expect to have control over any bigger amount of money in order to grow it. Organizing our life around the activities and good habits that will bring us closer to our goals is a skill that can be learned. There is no secret sauce to success than to be consistent and organized with our most important asset, which is our time.
Riches can be different things for everyone in life. Maybe you want to be healthier, or become a millionaire, get closer to God, be emotionally and phsycologically resilient and relentless, or simply, you want to be able to have a healthy relationship with your spouse and family. In any area where you want to become rich, you have to be organized with where and how you spend your time and effort to achieve your goals. Mastering the skill of organizing and administering our assets is something that can be learned with trial and error. When it comes down to money, it is important to know exactly how much budget you have available every month for different activities and areas. Noting down how much it is spent and reconciling this to how much we were originally planning to spend is the starting point to bring organization to our finances. Knowing where every cent and every dollar is going to is the starting point of creating a strong foundational financial support to build riches on top. The secret to riches is mastering the skill of organization.
